A Premier Institute for Technical Teacher Training & Research under Ministry of Education, Government of India

Genesis & History

National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research (NITTTR), Kolkata was established in 1965 as Technical Teachers' Training Institute (TTTI), Calcutta. This was the first among four such institutes (other three being at Chandigarh, Bhopal & Chennai) established by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India as fully centrally funded autonomous institutions for providing pre & in-service training to the teachers and staff of Degree and Diploma level training institutions and also for conducting various activities related to quality improvement of the technical education system of the country. The Govt of India, in 2003, accorded national status to this institute, (along with the three sister institutes) in recognition of the contribution of these institutes for the expert service rendered for overall improvement of quality of Technical Education System.

As per notification of The Gazette of India, March 30, 2024 (Chaitra 10, 1946) No. 9-1/2021-U.3 (A), U/S-3 of the UGC Act 1956, NITTTR Kolkata has been declared an Institution of higher learning as Deemed to be University under Distinct Category.

Vision

NITTTR Kolkata envisions to be the premier multidisciplinary university for promoting quality technical teachers' education, training and research for sustainable development.

Mission

  • To develop prospective technical teachers and others through Postgraduate, Doctoral and other programs.
  • To improve the quality of technical teachers and others through training and multidisciplinary, flexible and modular academic programs.
  • To undertake Educational and Technological Research for developing knowledge driven society.
  • To undertake leadership and capacity building activities for technical teachers, including need based training.
  • To collaborate with other academic and research institutes in both national and international levels.
  • To promote innovation, incubation and entrepreneurship for harnessing technology towards sustainable development.

Deemed to be University Status

As per notification of The Gazette of India, March 30, 2024 (Chaitra 10, 1946) No. 9-1/2021-U.3 (A), U/S-3 of the UGC Act 1956, NITTTR Kolkata has been declared an Institution of higher learning as Deemed to be University under Distinct Category.

1965

The Beginning: TTTI, Calcutta

Established in 1965 as Technical Teachers' Training Institute (TTTI), Calcutta.
