M.Tech Programmes Overview

The Institute is offering four AICTE approved, two year (four semester) Post Graduate Programmes in Manufacturing Technology, Multimedia & Software Systems, Mechatronics Engineering and Structural Engineering, leading to M.Tech Degree of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT, formerly West Bengal University of Technology - WBUT).

The Programme on Manufacturing Technology started in the academic year 2002-03 and both the programmes on Multimedia & Software Systems and Mechatronics Engineering have started in the academic year 2005-06. The programme on Structural Engineering has started from 2011-12.

All programmes initially had an intake capacity of 18 students. As a result of implementation of OBC reservation, this number has been increased to 28 seats from the academic year 2008-09, except for Structural Engineering which continues with an intake capacity of 9 seats.

Programme Structure

The M.Tech course is a 2-year, 4-semester full-time programme. The first two semesters cover theory and practical classes, while the last two semesters are dedicated to dissertation work under faculty supervision.

Career Prospects

Our M.Tech graduates have secured placements in prestigious organizations including TELCO, BHEL, NTPC, Bharat Electronics, PDCL, DPL, various engineering colleges, and have pursued research at institutions like IISc Bangalore and IIT Kharagpur.

Multimedia and Software Systems

Rationale

The present economic and foreign policy adopted by the Government of India has created significant opportunities in the software industry, producing a high demand for qualified software professionals to cater to national and international markets. This programme integrates various aspects of multimedia technologies and software development processes to produce industry professionals and academicians who can meet current requirements and drive future innovation.

Course Duration

Course Objectives

After successful completion of this M.Tech Programme in Multimedia and Software Systems, students will be able to:

Selection Process

All eligible applicants (GATE qualified or non-GATE) must appear for a written test and/or interview. Fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee a call for interview.

Preference is given to GATE qualified candidates with 55% marks in their engineering examination.

Mechatronics Engineering

Rationale

Mechatronics is a design philosophy that integrates precision mechanical engineering, digital and analog electronics, control theory, and computer engineering in the design of 'intelligent' products, systems, and processes. This approach offers advantages such as shorter design cycles, lower costs, and elegant solutions to design problems that cannot be easily solved within traditional engineering disciplines.

Course Duration

This is a full-time, regular 2-year, 4-semester M.Tech course in Mechatronics Engineering. The course is approved by AICTE, and the degree is awarded by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT).

Career Prospects

Mechatronics engineers have excellent employment prospects as demand for qualified professionals with multidisciplinary skills combining knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems has increased significantly. Manufacturing Technology

Rationale

Engineering & Technology fundamentally involves the production of goods and services for the benefit of mankind. Manufacturing is production with the help of machines, and Manufacturing Technology includes the study of different manufacturing processes and management of production systems.

Recognizing the need for qualified manpower in the fast-changing field of Manufacturing Technology, NITTTR Kolkata offers an industry-oriented postgraduate degree programme. The first batch was admitted in the 2002-03 session, and graduates have secured profitable employment in industries and public sectors like TELCO, BHEL, NTPC, Bharat Electronics, PDCL, DPL, and various engineering colleges.

The Department of Civil Engineering has identified Structural Engineering as a specialization, recognizing that it is a major component of Civil Engineering. Increased activities in infrastructure development in the country require personnel with specialization in structural engineering.

This course is valuable for fresh graduate engineers as well as practicing engineers seeking to upgrade their technical skills to keep pace with rapid advancements in structural engineering.
